John Henry Statue The Hildale-Talcott Ruritan Club chose to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of the completion of the Big Bend tunnel with a bronze statue of John Henry. The legend surrounding John Henry is that he was a tunnel worker who died after winning a race against a steam-powered drilling machine. Erected in 1972, the eight-foot statue stands above the east opening of the Big Bend Tunnel. The statue was designed by sculptor Charles Cooper. Address: WV Stat HWY 3 Talcott WV USA 24981-0353
